1244 Swindon Squadron are part of a national uniformed organisation known as the Royal Air Force Air Cadets.

Officially part of the Royal Air Force (No 22 Training Group), it is a UK wide organisation which provides opportunities for young people to experience activities and courses that will challenge and develop skills for use throughout life. Above all, it's great fun!

Air Cadets allows young people to do things that others only dream about. From flying and gliding, to shooting, adventure training, camping, sports and music, there's something for everyone. The list of activities is long, varied and open to all cadets. Yes it's a challenge, but that's what life's all about.

Air Cadets wear the same uniform as the Royal Air Force, and new recruits are shown how to maintain this uniform so we portray the highest standards to the public. The Air Cadet Organisation is not a recruitment agency for the military services, as it helps Cadets gain skills useful in civilian life as well. But for young people who are looking at a career in the military, the experience that can be gained from the Air Cadets can help give a fantastic head start.

Founded on 5th February 1941, the organisation is still going strong. With almost 41,000 members, aged from 13 to 20 years, in over 1,000 Squadrons across the UK, the Air Cadets is the world's largest premier youth air training organisation. 1244 is one of three Air Cadet Squadrons in Swindon. We offer our Cadets access to all the key activities within the organisation, and we have a strong and unique identity running through everything we do. The Squadron has 10 Values, which are made up of the three Air Cadet Values, three from the Staff and four from the Cadets themselves.
