Four very lucky cadets from 1244 Swindon took to the sunny skies over MOD Boscombe Down last Friday on Air Experience Flights.
They flew in and took control of the Grob Tutor
Trainer Aircraft and experienced the thrill of aerobatics.
We wish to thank Flt Lt J Smith, OC 2491 Lyneham Sqn for taking them.

Congratulations to our Senior service instructor Wing Commander Latchman who today takes over as Officer Commanding 99 Sqn at RAF Brize Norton to deliver strategic airlift with the RAF's C-17 providing long-range, heavy lift transport.

Wg Cdr Latchman came to the VGS on a BGT in 1998 as a cadet from 1244 Swindon Sqn in Dorset & Wiltshire Wing. He stayed with the VGS throughout his training with the RAF where he flew 8 types including operational tours on the Tristar and Voyager tankers, and C17 in support of Operations Herrick, Telic and Shader. After completing a two year staff tour in London, he has been requalifying on the C17 over the past few months and now takes command of the Squadron.

Congratulations Sir.

A Successful day yesterday at 1244 Squadron HQ for 12 Cadets completing their ‘Basic Radio Operator and Cyber Awareness’ Course with Cadets from 633 (West Swindon), 1244 (Swindon and District) and 2491 (Lyneham) Squadrons.

The day comprised of understanding the theory behind radios and their use, and then putting that into practice before completing their assessments to earn the Blue Comms Badge and then being able to tick off the relevant sections for their First Class Training for the newer Cadets.

With thanks to WO R Ley for running the course and CI S Wood and CI J Wood for assisting with the assessments. 💻🎙

It's always fantastic to hear what ex cadets if our Squadron are up to now.
Several have joined the RAF, Army and Navy, we have two now flying commercial aircraft for Easy Jet, and one flying with British Airways.
If you are an ex cadet, we would like to hear from you to tell us how the Sqn helped and influenced you for after you had left.

During the weekend of December 8th and 9th 2018, £1463.86 was raised by cadets from a Bag Pack at Morissons Supermarket in Swindon while our Sqn Band played Christmas Songs.
As a result of this magnificent amount of money, our Civilian Committee has very kindly handed over a cheque for £200 to the Manager of Morissons for their own Charity, Clic Sargent.
1244 Sqn has a strong relationship with the supermarket who have been very supportive, and we look forward to working with them throughout 2019.

Congratulations to Sgt Cowley who has passed her SSIC course at RAF Cranwell this week.
The course is very intense teaching the skills needed to be an Adult NCO.
Sgt Cowley has worked hard to achieve this great result and is now a fully fledged adult Sgt.
Sgt Cowley is an ex cadet from both 2003 Stratton and 878 Highworth Sqns.
Whilst at 878 she obtained the Rank of Cadet Warrant Officer before timing out at the age of 20 and joining 1244 Swindon as a Staff member.
